DeepMind’s AlphaStar Plays Humans At StarCraft II

Gaming Posts:

I have followed the development of DeepMind for a few years now, and have always tried to catch any videos they released showing their progress. In December last year they put AlphaStar up against two of the world’s top Starcraft 2 players.

They have previously run the AI against humans playing Shogi (Japanese chess) and Go, but a real time strategy game like Starcraft 2 is something of another level and complexity.

Below is a great 14min video going into a little of the game and what went into preparing this AI for the games.

A full blog post from the DeepMind web site is well worth a read if you can follow it ( they lost me several times ). Link Here.

DeepMind was founded in London in 2010 and backed by some of the most successful technology entrepreneurs in the world. Having been acquired by Google in 2014, we are now part of the Alphabet group. We continue to be based in our hometown of London, with additional research centres in Edmonton and Montreal, Canada, and a DeepMind Applied team in Mountain View, California.
